NOJA Power Nominated as Finalist in the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards
27 August 2020 – Switchgear engineering firm NOJA Power today announces nomination as a finalist in the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards for their ARENA supported Synchrophasor project executed in partnership with Australian utilities Energy Queensland and AusNet Services, AEMO and the University of Queensland and Deakin University.
“We are very proud of our Synchrophaser project because it is a great example of the Australian Government through ARENA, electricity utilities through AusNet Services and Energy Queesnland, universities through University of Queensland and Deakin University, and industry through NOJA Power all working together to conduct research and development that has created new leading edge technology that will now be successfully commercialised globally through the industry partner,” reports NOJA Power Group Managing Director Neil O’Sullivan.
The nominated project is among the largest ever scale deployments of Synchrophasor technology on the distribution grid. This technology provides a data driven method to improve grid reliability and control under high renewable energy penetration.
The big data acquired in this project is being used for research projects with the University of Queensland and Deakin University. The primary goals of this research are to develop new protection and control techniques for the future distribution grid . Preliminary outcomes from this research include high-precision distribution network parameter modelling, distributed load/generation distinction and network asset condition monitoring.
A multiyear project, NOJA Power’s initial development of the Synchrophasor Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) was included in their new Recloser Control device, the RC20. This new product required multidisciplinary engineering expertise, which is now being used in the field with industry and research partners to improve global application knowledge of Synchrophasors in the distribution grid.
The AEEA awards will be announced on the 15th of September at 12:00pm AEST. For more information, visit www.nojapower.com.au or contact your local NOJA Power Distributor.
