The ideal temperature
When it comes to batteries in a control system, temperature is the enemy; too hot and it fails and too cold and it fails. The right balance is achieved by Temperature compensation. This will optimise the battery life, so it is in prime condition for it’s age and type when required.
The current at right point
The maximum charging current must be kept within the limits set by the battery manufacturer, 10-30% for AGM batteries, 10-50% for GEL batteries. If loads are connected to the batteries, their consumption must also be considered.
Tension is life
The fast charging voltage (Absorption) must be maintained within certain limits, otherwise they will cook and become inedible eggs. The float voltage must be as calibrated, to optimise the battery performance . As for cooking, times are important, for a battery they are vital.
